A Holiday Message for 2019

Published on December 21, 2019

May you be blessed in your gatherings with good company and good cheer

What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past,

courage for the present, hope for the future.

It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow

with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path

may lead to peace. – Agnes M. Pharo

The holiday season is a time of coming together in our community. We can pause from our daily routines and we take time to be with family, friends and neighbours. I believe with the charity and generosity demonstrated each December brings out the best in ourselves and our community.

This December I was pleased to focus on two local awareness campaigns: one to encourage us to buy local and another one to ask you consider volunteering and donating to local charities.

At the Kanata Food Cupboard Unload the Bus event thank you to everyone who donated for our community. I encourage us all to give what we can to the charities of choice who do so much for those less fortunate in our community.

There is no ideal Christmas; only the one Christmas

you decide to make as a reflection of your values,

desires, affections, traditions. – Bill McKibben

This year there have been many challenges for people in our community and yet we have much to be thankful for. Though this time of year is centred in traditions, sometimes with life changes – like a move or new line of work – our traditions need to be adapted. I believe it is the charm of this season that helps us to remember and honour our old traditions while we start new ones that accommodate our new realities. That is the magic of the season; being recharged and refocused with old memories and making new ones. It is also the magic of having loved ones around you to share thoughts and some laughter. It is so important to break from routine. Take a break from our online activities, our cell phones… take the time to be present, in the here and now, with the people in our lives.

I wish you the very best this holiday season.

May you be blessed sharing many special

moments with your family and friends.

Merry Christmas and to your health

and happiness in 2020,
