Busy summer for MPPPublished on September 06, 2018
The Community Voice MPP Column / September 6, 2018
It has been great to have more time in the riding recently to hear the important issues affecting residents in Kanata-Carleton.
I'm thankful to have been able to connect with many people at a number of local events: Corn Boils in both Carp and Fitzroy Harbour, a tour with members of the Ottawa River Canoe Club in Dunrobin, a tour of the Diefenbunker and meeting with organizers and those in attendance at the Trail West Summberfest in Kanata South.
It was my pleasure to attend the Let's Talk Science sponsorship launch at Alion Canada. I'd like to congratulate Alion Canada on their investment in youth and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) learning, and their contribution to shaping the future careers through their investment and example of their own talented and skilled high-tech team. We know early positive experiences with STEM learning can lead young people to extremely rewarding careers in the high-tech sector, especially in areas like Kanata North.
I would also like to mention that the 155th edition of the Carp Fair will take place from Sept. 20-23 and I am looking forward to the ceremonial parade on Saturday afternoon.
The work of the Carp Fair board along with hundreds of volunteers make it "the best little fair in Canada" and such a huge success year after year.
The Ontario Summer Games were held in London from Aug. 2 to 5 with 2 athletes competing from Kanata-Carleton. Congratulations to all who participated! Katie Xu returned from the 2018 Special Olympics Canada National Summer Games in Antigonish, Nova Scotia with two bronze medals and a silver in swimming, congratulations!
