Links to the summer MPP Reports
September 11, 2020 – At the end of the first full week of September, when students have gone back to their classrooms and we begin to settle into a Fall routine, I thought it might be interesting to look back at the summer of 2020.
Each month I deliver a MPP Report. Below you will find a few highlights from the summer issues as well as a direct link to these newsletters.
Enjoy the reflections and wishing you the best this Fall,
On June 25th local businesses participated in a roundtable discussion with Hon. Rod Phillips, Ontario's Minister of Finance and the Chair of a special cabinet committee - the Ontario Jobs and Recovery Committee. Business leaders Sir Terry Matthews, Leo Lax, John Luszczek and others spoke about the Province's opportunities for growth, and what the Ontario Government might do to support the high tech sector. Thank you to Kanata North Business Association President Jamie Petten who facilitated the discussion on local priorities. The roundtable was an excellent opportunity to provide input to Minister Phillips who is focused on initiatives that will restore and grow Ontario's economy.

The Ontario Government has made significant announcements in July to improve the Province’s Long-Term Care System. The Government is modernizing the way new construction and home upgrades are funded. It announced a new Accelerated Build Pilot Program. It released a report on staffing issues in long-term care homes. Combined, these proactive initiatives will create new spaces to shorten the Province's long-term care wait list, upgrade Ontario's aging homes, and provide the comfort and care we all want for our aging loved ones.

On August 27th the Ontario Premier was in Kanata and toured Leonardo DRS Technologies Canada. The company manufactures and supports a broad range of military communications, electro-optics, surveillance, and sensor signal processing systems for naval and ground applications. It employs approximately 350 people at the Kanata facility. I was pleased Allan Hubley, Ottawa City Councillor for Kanata South, was able to join us. Thank you to the management and staff at Leonardo DRS who made the visit so informative and interesting.
