New Memories Made at this Year's Carp FairPublished on September 30, 2019
September 30, 2019 - Merrilee Fullerton, MPP for Kanata-Carleton, offers a few comments and shares photos from her weekend at the Carp Fair.
"I always look forward to fair weekend. I had a wonderful time at the Carp Fair seeing all the sights & sounds that I love at a fairgrounds. I enjoyed meeting and speaking with so many Kanata-Carleton residents. The harvest displays and the exhibitors were interesting and my highlight each year is to see the heavy horse teams.
"It was a fun weekend and there is no denying that our annual fair in Carp is "The Best Little Fair in Canada." Thank you to all the organizers and volunteers who made this possible. For me, there were new memories made at this year's Carp Fair."
On Thursday night I had a wonderful time at the annual fair dinner
honouring the hard work of the Board, organizers and volunteers of the fair.
Friday I had a chance to speak with organizers on the fairgrounds.
It was great to see and share stories with many of the exhibitors.
I also saw a few local residents on my tour of the facilities.
Saturday the fun began with the Carp Fair opening parade.
It was a pleasure to meet Martha Palmer's family at the opening ceremonies.
Always love the bag pipes! And what are opening ceremonies without them?
One popular fair feature this year was "Ask a Farmer?" - so I did...
Photographed with a local team of volunteer firefighters.
Thank you to first responders who are always there when we need them.
There were many wonderful exhibits at the fair - and at the Huntley Township Historical Society
they had some priceless photographs of hockey being played in the early 1900s.
Have you seen a gas-engined corn sheller like this before?
On Sunday morning, there was need for some refreshments!
I don't eat cotton candy often, but when I do I will only eat the blue (but of course!).
Enjoying the sights and sounds of the midway - with caramel popcorn!
I had to get by the rail to see the heavy horse teams parade around the ring.
I absolutely love the heavy horses.
It was wonderful to see so many local residents and get a chance to catch up.
On social media I shared one of my fondest memories of my childhood
at the Carp Fair... showing my cherished pony Smokey.
